Davis Net Impact: Rocking Nashville & Looking to the Future!

Davis Net Impact is off to another fantastic start this year, fueled by its award as “2007 Trailblazer Chapter of the Year” on November 3rd at the annual Net Impact conference in Nashville. Twenty-two GSM students and approximately 1700 students from chapters around the world were in attendance as our pioneering chapter was recognized as the one “that has experienced the greatest growth and has acted as a local change catalyst.” Yet this wasn’t the only achievement for the GSM during the conference weekend. The chapter’s Team Focus won the Net Impact Network Challenge for their plan to partner with the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center and utilize the Net Impact network to cut residential carbon emissions while generating wealth. Additionally, two GSM teams advanced to the second round of the Project Pyramid Case Competition, presenting their plan to alleviate global poverty at the conference. Students also had the opportunity to build expertise in breakout sessions with esteemed panelists from a variety of fields and companies, two of which featured former Davis Net Impact Co-Presidents, Cleve Justis and Ted Howes (GSM ’04).

Looking ahead, Davis Net Impact anticipates another year of trailblazing. A new class of GSM students is contributing its enthusiasm and innovation to the club and the business world’s social and environmental challenges. The chapter will host several site visits and speakers, including E+Co in November, build strongly on last year's campus greening initiative, and participate in the Focus the Nation national symposia to help educate the UC Davis community about the role of business in fostering climate change solutions. Davis Net Impact is also collaborating with Career Services to implement a sustainable and responsible business theme for the GSM’s annual Peer to Pier event on March 6, 2008. Hopefully the GSM community will be there in force!
