International Business Club

The mission of the International Business Club (IBC) is to promote cross-cultural understanding and provide an avenue for developing international business and development knowledge.

In addition to hosting films, speakers, and faculty-led Tai Chi workouts, a key component of the club is supporting and facilitating the International Study Practicum – a annual 3 credit, 10-week winter quarter course that allows students to collaborate with a faculty adviser in the selection of a country or countries, the identification of industry sectors, and the establishment of contacts within organizations they will visit. Topics often include international trade, socioeconomic development, and/or environmental responsibility.

Past IST classes have visited Brazil, China, Malaysia, Mexico, and Japan - where a Davis NI member was one of the first to be an official Net Impact Ambassador - to name a few.

To facilitate inter-club collaboration and raise the issues that straddle both Net Impact and international business, IBC established a new board post for the 2007 leadership transition: "Vice President, Sustainable Trade & Development". Thus far, this position brought an energy efficiency expert to present comparisons between U.S. and Japanese approaches, served as the Net Impact Ambassador mentioned above, and is currently working with the IBC president and other interested parties to explore the feasibility of launching a Cooperative Trade & Consulting Program.
